Available Assessments

A full psycho-educational assessment refers to a full comprehensive battery of tests which are aimed at providing insight into the clients, cognitive, scholastic, developmental, social and emotional functioning.

Psycho-educational assessments are requested when:

  • An individual experiences challenges with their attention span and retaining information.
  • A learner experiences challenges with reading, writing and/or mathematics, and is not performing at the expected grade level.
  • A learner experiences challenges with anxiety which is relating to academic performance in school.
  • An individual experiences difficulty completing tasks and tests in the given time period.
  • An individual is experiencing challenges relating to a neurodevelopmental disorder.

A school readiness assessment is often requested when a child is being enrolled in school, generally done before being enrolled in Grade R.

This assessment is usually done to determine if a child is ready for primary school by identifying any developmental shortfalls that may affect a child’s learning and development at school.  These assessments are also meant to evaluate a child’s cognitive development, physical, sensory motor development, as well as their social and emotional development.  

Developmental assessments are used to evaluate young children usually from ages 3 years to 5 years to determine if a child is meeting their milestones of early childhood on time.

The important milestones include language, fine and gross motor skills, self-regulation, and emotional abilities. Early intervention at identifying these issues in children can assist a child tremendously in reaching their full potential.

Subject choice assessments can be done remotely (online from the comfort of your home), or they can be done face to face with me in session. 

The purpose of this assessment is to assist a child who is currently in grade 9 with their choice of subjects most suitable to pursue in the FET phase (10-12).

Subject choice assessments are based on the child’s interests and personality. This is quite an important step in an adolescent’s life and the start of where their career is being shaped.

Career assessments can be done remotely (online from the comfort of your home), or they can be done face to face with me in session. 

The purpose of this assessment is to assist an individual to understand how their interests, aptitudes, values, and skills can determine where they fit within the job market and help with choosing successful career options. It is advisable to conduct a career assessment towards the end of Grade 11 or early in the first term of Grade 12 before their June examinations.

These assessments are requested for a high school child to determine if they require extra support. Applications for concessions for a child that is in Grade 12 must be submitted during the learners Grade 11 year. These concessions can be re-applied for even at tertiary level.

The following concessions/ accommodations can be applied for:

  • Reader: An individual who assists the learner in reading the examination script and questions.
  • Scribe: An individual who assists the learner in writing the answers down in an examination.
  • Amanuensis: Reader and scribe
  • Prompter: Assists the learner in keeping focus during an examination. A separate venue is used.
  • Additional time: An additional five, ten or fifteen minutes per hour of examination is granted to learners.
  • Handwriting:  A special sticker is placed on each of a learner’s answer books.  This indicates to the marker that untidy writing must be accommodated.
  • Spelling accommodation: This is where there is a discrepancy between, the chronological age and spelling age of the learner. This accommodations ensures that the marker ignores the spelling as long as it is phonetically correct. This does not apply to a if an English paper is being written and spelling is accounted for.
  • Technology assistance: When the use of technology equipment is being required.
