Assessments

Assessment is a comprehensive psychometric process designed to gain a deeper understanding of an individual’s cognitive abilities, behaviour, personality, and learning potential. A combination of scientifically validated tools, techniques, and clinical observations are used to ensure a holistic and accurate profile.

Through this process, various aspects of functioning are explored, including:

  • Intellectual and academic abilities
  • Learning strengths and barriers
  • Emotional and behavioural functioning
  • Personality patterns
  • Interests and career inclinations

Once assessments are completed, the results are carefully interpreted and integrated into a meaningful, practical report. This provides parents or guardians with valuable insight into their child’s unique strengths, challenges, and developmental needs.

The goal of assessment is not simply to identify difficulties, but to empower families with clarity, direction, and tailored recommendations enabling each child to reach their full potential with confidence and support.

Reason assessments are requested:

Assessments may be recommended or requested for a variety of reasons, including:

  • When a parent has concerns about their child’s development, learning, or overall progress
  • When a teacher identifies a possible learning barrier or academic difficulty
  • When a child’s scholastic performance shows a noticeable decline
  • When there are behavioural, emotional, or adjustment concerns at home or at school
  • When a School-Based Support Team (SBST) recommends further evaluation
  • When there is a need to apply for academic concessions (such as additional time, a reader, scribe, amanuensis, or other examination accommodations)

Early identification and appropriate assessment allow for timely intervention, targeted support, and informed decision-making to ensure that each child receives the assistance they need to succeed.
